Intermittent monitoring on Dollymount Strand was undertaken in relation to previous reinstatement works associated with the covering of a wreck exposed during dredging works in 2001. The dredging was being undertaken in relation to the construction of an underwater sewerage pipeline across Dublin Bay by Dublin City Council. The pipeline route formed a curve extending eastwards into the bay from Sandymount strand and then turning gradually northwards before coming ashore at Sutton Creek. Subsequent to the impact on the previously unknown wreck and on the bay in general by the dredging works, a number of ship’s timbers have been recovered.

Three pieces of ship’s timbers were retrieved from Dollymount Strand, Bull Island, in 2003. The monitoring licence was extended in order to retrieve the timbers and take them into temporary wet storage.
