Monitoring of bulk excavation took place between 12 and 25 November 2003 on foot of the results of testing carried out by Sin»ad Phelan in May of 2003 (No. 498, Excavations 2003, 03E0729). Testing uncovered remains of 19th-century structures and evidence for land reclamation deposits. The City Archaeologist recommended monitoring of the bulk excavation of the site to establish the nature and extent of these deposits and structures.
The bulk excavation uncovered the remains of two 19th-century buildings. These buildings appear to be two industrial-type sheds to the rear (west) of the property shown on the 1847 OS map. Any archaeological remains in the eastern portion of the site had been removed by the insertion of two 20th-century basements. Below the 19th-century structures were land reclamation deposits dating to the late 18th and 19th centuries.
