On 13 February 2003 testing was carried out on the site of a proposed extension to Harmony Cottage, 30A Eglington Road. Harmony Cottage is marked on the first-edition OS map (1837), but the existing structure dates from the 1940s. Four trenches were excavated on this site. The stratigraphy comprised 0.12–0.5m of rubble and clay overlying natural subsoil. In the west of the site two courses of an east–west wall foundation were uncovered. This was constructed of limestone bonded with mortar and was 0.64m wide and 0.33m high. The foundation aligned with the northern wall of the present house and is probably part of the 19th-century structure of Harmony cottage. No other features or finds of archaeological significance were identified.
