The diversion of over 900m of gas pipeline by Bord Gáis at the Abbotstown Laboratory Complex was monitored over four weeks in September 2003. The removal of topsoil and the excavation of the pipeline trench were supervised and no archaeological features or artefacts were uncovered. The pipeline extended across two large fields which were subject to extensive reclamation in recent years, as evidenced by the number of land drains that were exposed. The only other feature noted was a short portion of the basal course of a wall. This was located close to a number of derelict buildings at the northern end of the pipeline corridor. These buildings were originally part of the Abbotstown estate and the wall uncovered during topsoil-stripping by Bord Gáis is probably contemporary.
