Monitoring of construction works at a site at Weaver’s Square/South Brown Street was undertaken between 27 March and 16 April 2003. This area had experienced documented settlement from the mid-17th century onwards, and potentially earlier settlement from the medieval period. The site had been tested on two previous occasions by Teresa Bolger (Excavations 2002, No. 520).
Red-brick and concrete foundations, red-brick rubble and silts of indeterminate date were uncovered in the testing. The only find of significance was an in situ timber water pipe and barrel, part of a water system to a building of which no record remained. No structural remains of the 18th century or earlier were uncovered on this site.
