A final phase of monitoring was carried out during construction works to the rear (south) of the Parson’s Building, at the eastern end of Trinity College, along the South Leinster Street boundary. The new development will consist of a four-storey-over-semi-basement building, which straddles the Parson’s Building on the north and the protected structures fronting onto Leinster Street South on the south. Monitoring revealed that this area had been actively built up by over 1m in the 19th century by general infilling. The remains of an earlier wall foundation were also found at the base of the existing precinct wall, at the junction between it and No. 1 South Leinster Street. This earlier wall, probably associated with No. 1 South Leinster Street, was left in situ and not disturbed in the new development.
