Monitoring was undertaken at Tara Street Dart Station on behalf of Iarnród Éireann between 24 November and 3 December 2003.
One test-pit and three boreholes were mechanically excavated across the site. It was only possible to excavate one test-pit, due to the presence of live services extending across large parts of the site.
As a result of post-medieval/modern cobbled surfaces and the presence of a sherd of medieval pottery being recorded, it was recommended that all below-ground excavation works associated with the proposed development be monitored. A dark-grey/black silty clay layer was revealed towards the base of the test-pit. Should this be revealed as archaeological at the monitoring stage, then excavation is recommended.
