The proposed development, to consist of 38 dwelling-houses, landscaping, access roads and related services, is located two miles west of Bundoran town just off the main Sligo/Donegal road, facing the Atlantic. The site of the proposed development is near SMR 106:11–14, a passage tomb, a wedge tomb and two ‘sites’ of standing stones respectively. The locations of the standing stones are unknown, with the passage and wedge tombs currently fenced off, respecting the agreed buffer zones. The majority of the proposed development site had been previously cleared of archaeology (Excavations 2001, No. 291, 01E0683), which included manual testing, machine stripping and the excavation of a number of archaeological features identified during site clearance.
Ten trenches, 10–80m long, were excavated by machine to the level of undisturbed natural. None revealed any evidence of archaeological activity.
