Monitoring of topsoil removal was carried out on the site of a proposed dwelling-house at Dromore, Mountcharles, Co. Donegal, on 16 September 2003. The development site is located immediately south-west of a subcircular enclosure defined on the north and west by an earthen bank, which has a maximum height of 1.7m at the north-east. This site was tested as part of a previous planning application in July 2002 and no archaeological material was discovered.
The entire footprint of the development was stripped of topsoil revealing a uniform stratigraphy across the site, grey/brown clayey/sandy silt topsoil (0.3m deep) overlying yellow/brown clayey/silty sand subsoil. No archaeological material was discovered.
