During monitoring works for Donegal Main Drainage, a portion of an 18th-century quay wall was revealed in the carpark beside the tourist office. The trench at this point was 1.3m wide and the wall, perpendicular to the trench, was revealed 0.65m below the tarmac. As the trench required a depth of 2m at this point, the portion of the wall cut by the trench was excavated. The wall was 0.9m wide at the top, widening to 1.3m at its base. It was constructed of large, roughly cut limestone blocks, 0.4m by 0.5m on average and bonded with lime mortar. This same wall, on the same orientation, was revealed during the construction of a hotel 60m to the north.
