The development consists of 35 detached and semi-detached houses and associated services. The exposed natural, beneath between 0.3 and 0.6m of topsoil, consisted of bare, weathered limestone interspersed with patches of yellow-brown and yellow-grey boulder clay. In a number of cases the excavation for house foundations required digging into the upper layers of the weathered bedrock, such was the shallow depth of soil overburden. It appears that the underlying geology of the area consists of limestone ridges running from east to west, the ground between containing deeper deposits of natural boulder clay. This is emphasised in the results of the testing, backed up by observation during monitoring, where the depth of subsoil running north from Single Street undulates from 0.6m to 0.3m back to 0.7m and finally 0.3m, as the ground slopes up to the north.
Examination of the surface of the boulder clay and weathered bedrock, both during the testing phase and the monitoring, did not reveal anything of archaeological significance. The results of the testing carried out by Gerry Walsh (Excavations 2000, No. 179, 00E0369) and the current monitoring in June 2003 did not reveal anything of archaeological significance on this development.
