Test excavation was undertaken at a proposed development site located c. 300m south-east of the zone of archaeological potential for the medieval town of Youghal. There are four archaeological monuments within a 100m radius of the site. There is a possible standing stone located in the south-west of the area of proposed development, but this is not a recorded archaeological monument.
Twelve trenches were excavated in a random spread across the site. Two small subcircular features were identified in Trench 9. Struck flint was recovered from the northernmost of the two spreads. No further features of archaeological significance were observed during the course of the test excavation.
