Test-trenches were excavated at the site of a proposed dwelling-house located near the crest of a hill between Cloyne and Aghada in east Cork. The outer bank of a ringfort forms the south-eastern boundary of the site. The house is to be constructed to the north of a 13m buffer zone which has been created around the monument. Seven trenches, 0.8m wide and a maximum of 0.8m deep, were excavated along the footprint of the house and in the area of drainage services. Stratigraphy was similar throughout and consisted of 0.3–0.4m of featureless topsoil over stony reddish-brown subsoil. All the trenches investigated were archaeologically featureless.
