A test excavation was carried out at Rusheen, Coachford, within the constraint zone of two archaeological monuments which have no surface indications. The sites are listed as a standing stone and a Roman Catholic church. The standing stone was recorded by members of the Cork Archaeological Survey in 1992, but no trace of the monument survived when the Archaeological Services Unit carried out an assessment of the area in 2002. The former existence of a church in the development site is more tenuous. The area was extensively tested over a period of two days to determine the location of the standing stone and any other subsurface archaeological remains. No archaeological finds or features were encountered during the course of this work.
