Monitoring was carried out during the excavation of a series of geological test-pits prior to the construction of the western and eastern bypasses of Mitchelstown. Twenty-three of the test-pits were identified by the National Roads Authority Project Archaeologist as being archaeologically sensitive and the excavation of these pits, located in the townlands of Ballynacarriga, Ballinglanna North, Ballinrush, Kilshanny, Garryleagh, Carrigane, Cloonlough and Mitchelstown, was monitored. No finds or features of archaeological interest were noted.
