Testing was carried out on this site, at the request of the National Roads Authority Project Archaeologist, to determine if a cemetery, said by local tradition to possibly exist in a field on the route of the planned western bypass of Mitchelstown, would be impacted upon by the proposed road. A 340m-long centre-line trench, with alternating side trenches at 20m intervals, was excavated on the route of the proposed roadway, but no evidence for a cemetery, or other finds or features of archaeological significance, was found.
