Testing was carried out in the garden of the former St Joseph’s Convent, Millstreet, Co. Cork. The Respond! housing association is developing 32 apartments in eight semi-detached buildings distributed in two ranges that encompass an embanked green area. The site is 140m from the site of a possible ringfort and a known souterrain, both located under the road junction on which the convent is sited.
Six trenches were machine excavated in mottled grey sandy clay subsoil, at an average depth of 0.5m. No finds or features of archaeological significance were uncovered.
