Testing was carried out in advance of construction along the route of the proposed N8 Rathcormac–Fermoy Bypass on behalf of Cork County Council. In 2002, during this phase of centre-line testing, a number of features of archaeological potential were exposed at Lisnasallagh. The site was subsequently designated Lisnasallagh 2 and was excavated in September 2003.

Topsoil-stripping revealed three features of archaeological significance and a post-medieval field boundary. The features included two small spreads and a pit containing prehistoric finds, including prehistoric pottery, a flint scraper and flint debitage. These three features appeared to be associated with one another; however, there was no evidence of any other archaeological features in this area. Two radiocarbon samples retrieved will be analysed to establish a date for these features.

The work was funded by the National Development Plan 2000–2006 and was awarded by the National Roads Authority.
