Cork County Council proposed to construct a wastewater treatment plant at Knockalohert, Kilbrin, to the west of Buttevant, Co. Cork. The site is located on the west bank of the Awbeg River and falls within the zone of archaeological potential for Ballygrady School. The building has been refurbished and is now in use as a private dwelling-house.
Three test-trenches were opened on-site. No archaeological finds or features were noted in the trenches. However, a previously unrecorded circular stone tower was noted on the site. This feature has been built into the west bank of the stream, with foundations in the stream. It was recommended that the design of the treatment plant should respect the location of the tower and that it should remain untouched.
