A request for further information, requiring testing, was issued in order to progress an application for a Grant of Planning for the construction of a dwelling at Glanycarney, Dunmanway, Co. Cork. The proposed development site lies inside the zone of archaeological potential for an anomalous stone group, a fulacht fiadh and a standing stone. The standing stone is located midway along the southern boundary of the proposed site. The stone group and fulacht fiadh are both located to the south of this boundary. The standing stone is to remain undisturbed.
Five test-trenches were excavated by mechanical digger on the proposed development site. Topsoil was removed to a depth of 0.7–0.9m to reveal a light-grey-brown stone subsoil. No finds or features of an archaeological nature were noted.
