Cork County Council proposed to upgrade the wastewater treatment plant in the town of Doneraile. The location of this urban riverside site suggested that features of an archaeological nature may be encountered. An estate map of 1807 indicated that a brewery once stood on the site. The excavation of four trial-pits by Cork County Council was monitored. A short section of mortared limestone wall was exposed in one of the pits, suggesting that the foundations of earlier buildings may remain in situ below the surface. No further finds or features of an archaeological nature were noted in the pits.
