Testing was carried out in advance of construction along the route of the proposed N8 Rathcormac–Fermoy Bypass on behalf of Cork County Council. In 2002, during this phase of centre-line testing, a number of features of archaeological potential were exposed at Curraghprevin. The site was subsequently designated Curraghprevin 2 and was excavated in July 2003. After stripping the appropriate areas within the road-take, various features were identified. Many were the result of modern land clearance. In addition to these, a post-medieval field boundary, five pits, a possible furnace, a number of shallow spreads and a curvilinear feature were resolved. These features were scattered throughout the site, which stretched over 600m in length. It was not possible to retrieve any datable samples from any of these features and no finds were recovered. This site was of limited archaeological significance.
The work was funded by the National Development Plan 2000–2006 and was awarded by the National Roads Authority.
