Testing was carried out in advance of construction along the route of the proposed N8 Rathcormac–Fermoy Bypass on behalf of Cork County Council in 2002. During this phase of centre-line testing, two isolated features of archaeological potential were identified at Corrin. The site was subsequently designated Corrin 3 and was excavated on 18 August 2003.
Two separate areas, each with dimensions of 10m2, were stripped of sod and topsoil with the aid of a four-tonne mechanical excavator equipped with a grading bucket. One isolated pit was excavated at the centre of each trench. The pit fills were sterile and contained no datable archaeological material. No other features were uncovered.
The work was funded in full by the National Development Plan 2000–2006 and awarded by the National Roads Authority.
