Groundworks at an apartment development were monitored in September 2003. The site is that of a former dancehall and is at the bottom of a steep sandstone cliff, on the north bank of the River Lee. This area to the north-east of Cork city centre was first developed in the early 19th century. In general, bedrock was exposed immediately beneath the surface, although in the southern part of the site there was a 1m brick-rich layer beneath the site of the ballroom. No finds or features of archaeological significance were recorded.
