Planning permission was granted for an extension to the Eli Lilly factory complex at Ballythomas East, Ballythomas West and Horsehill More (North), Kinsale, Co. Cork, with a number of conditions which required a geophysical survey and monitoring of topsoil-stripping. A geophysical investigation identified a number of anomalies, one of which, due to its nature and location, indicated that it might represent the remains of a circular feature such as a ringfort. The report recommended testing in the area of these anomalies in advance of development on-site.
Two test-trenches were opened in the area of the possible ringfort. No evidence for an enclosure was noted. Topsoil was removed to a depth of 0.2–0.3m to reveal a slatey, stony subsoil. No finds or features of an archaeological nature were noted.
