Monitoring was carried out during the construction of a single dwelling-house at Ballylopin, Charleville, in a greenfield site c. 100m to the east of a motte (SMR 8:10). An area measuring 20m by 20m was cleared of topsoil, which measured 0.1m deep. This layer was removed to the level of the natural subsoil, a dark yellowish-brown boulder clay. There were no archaeological features or finds uncovered during the course of monitoring.
