A test excavation was undertaken within the zone of archaeological potential for a medieval moated site as part of a planning application for the construction of a dwelling-house. The monument is located to the north-west of the house, where it forms a partial boundary for three fields. Four trenches were excavated to a level below the natural boulder clay and no features or finds of archaeological significance were noted.
