An assessment was carried out on a proposed housing development at Fintra Beg, Miltown Malbay, Co. Clare. Seventeen trenches were excavated, only one of which revealed archaeological features or deposits of significance. Trench 14 revealed the presence of heat-shattered stone and charcoal-rich soil, materials usually associated with fulachta fiadh. In order to avoid impacting upon this spread of burnt-mound material, the proposed percolation unit for house No. 4 will be relocated.
