The footprint of a 19th-century cottage was investigated prior to inserting damp-proofing and insulation and recasting the floor. This cottage appears to pre-date the others in the area (in the 1840s). It was built on a layer of laminated flood silt overlying midden over a rough outdoor surfacing of shingle from the nearby beach. A fence-line and post-holes in the surface represent outdoor structures associated with the late medieval and early post-medieval settlement. No underlying (medieval) material was exposed during the works. The rough surfacing overlying midden and flood silt has been recorded in earlier investigations in and around the cottages (Excavations 2002, No. 199).
The work was funded by DĂșchas.
