The Department of Marine and Natural Resources, in conjunction with Dúchas, collaborated in the construction of a seawall to protect Carrigaholt Castle from collapsing into the sea. The majority of the work was undertaken in 2002 (Excavations 2002, No. 136). However, further monitoring was required early in 2003 relating to the construction of a temporary access trackway. No archaeological stratigraphy or artefacts were recorded during this last phase of construction works.
