Topsoil-stripping for Phase 1 of a housing development at Loughvella, Ennis, took place over five days from 31 March to 4 April 2003, while some further monitoring was carried out in May 2003. Beneath a thin layer of mid-brown topsoil was a layer of orange boulder clay overlying limestone bedrock. In several areas of the site, topsoil came directly onto bedrock. Nothing of archaeological significance was recorded during monitoring.
