Testing was carried out at site P4 from 11 to 12 June 2003 as part of a programme of site-specific testing along the route of the proposed Ennis Bypass. Site P4 is in Killow townland, near Killow Church, the remains of which are 100m east of the road corridor. The area to be tested included low-lying pasture and bog, as well as a trackway and field boundary.
Five trenches were excavated to natural by machine, and nothing of archaeological significance was recorded. The excavation of a test-trench was attempted in the very low-lying boggy area, but the terrain proved at the time (after some weeks of heavy rain) to be too soft. It was recommended that this area be tested in the future.
