Monitoring of groundworks associated with the development of 21 dwelling-houses took place at Hurdleston, Broadford, Co. Clare. An initial phase of monitoring has already been undertaken at the site by Tony Cummins (Excavations 2002, No. 110).
The second phase of stripping was located in the south and west of the development area. The area stripped as part of the final phase of this development measured approximately 250m by 50m. Initially stripping was undertaken on the lower, eastern side of the site. A depth of 0.3–0.4m of topsoil was stripped. The topsoil consisted of a dark reddish-brown sandy silt with frequent small stones. Nothing of an archaeological nature was noted during the works.
