Testing was carried out at site AR22 on 26 June 2003 as part of a programme of site-specific testing along the route of the proposed Ennis Bypass. Site AR22 was recorded in 1996 as two oval mounds averaging 30m in diameter. These mounds were orientated approximately east–west and were located in grazing land immediately north-west of a small lake. They were identified as being potential cairns/fulachta fiadh. A geophysical survey carried out in the area in January 2003 identified a possible curvilinear feature along the eastern edge of the hillocks, with associated activity noted within the saddle.
Five trenches were excavated to natural. Nothing of archaeological significance was recorded.
