The proposed development, to consist of an extension to the Imperial Bar, is in the centre of Cavan town at the junction of Main Street and Bridge Street. The site is within the zone of archaeological potential for the medieval town of Cavan. Testing was carried out on 4 July 2003. Three trenches, one measuring 50m by 1m and two measuring 10m by 1m, were excavated across the site. All were excavated to a depth of between 0.4 and 0.5m. No archaeological features or finds were uncovered during the course of the excavation.
