The proposed development, to consist of a new building incorporating a coffee shop with apartments above and involving the demolition of an existing building, is located in the centre of Cavan at the junction of James Connolly Street and Fair Green Hill. The site is within the zone of archaeological potential for the medieval town of Cavan. Testing was carried out on 14 March 2003. Three trenches, measuring 15m by 1m, were excavated across the site. All were excavated to a depth of between 0.6 and 1.2m. No archaeological features or finds were uncovered during the course of the excavation.
