Assessment of a proposed gravel-quarry development 65m from a ringfort (SMR 16:91) included testing. Five trenches were excavated between 19 and 25 September 2003. Three corn-drying kilns, eight hearths, a ‘trough’ and two stone-lined linear features were recorded during the testing. Given the location and nature of the evidence, the majority of the features are likely to form one complex associated with the ringfort. An exclusion zone was instigated around the archaeological areas and all groundworks associated with the development will be monitored.
