Monitoring of removal of topsoil and overburden was undertaken at 27 Newry Road, Armagh, in advance of the construction of two apartment blocks with associated services. An impact assessment for the site had shown that the development area lay within the site of a late 18th-/early 19th-century brickfield (IHR 730). There was no reference to a kiln and it would appear that clay was quarried here and used to manufacture bricks elsewhere. It was hoped to find surviving subsurface evidence of the brickfield, possibly in the form of quarry pits, or even other unrelated archaeological deposits within the development area. However, no evidence of the brickfield was located and nothing of archaeological significance was observed during the investigation.
