Pre-planning testing was undertaken adjacent to St Patrick’s church and graveyard within the old walled town of Wexford. It is proposed to construct an apartment block in a yard abutting the eastern wall of the graveyard. The proposed building covers an area of 10m by 20m. The floors and footings of two old houses were evident on the surface of the yard before the test-trenches were set out. These houses were demolished some years ago. Three trenches, oriented east–west, were placed across the area of the proposed development. These were all excavated to a level below the natural clay, and no features or finds of archaeological significance were noted.
