Test excavation as part of an assessment took place at the site of the Mercy convent, Irishtown, New Ross, on 7 February 2002. The site, in the medieval suburb of Irishtown, is within the zone of archaeological potential of New Ross. Four trenches were excavated by machine. Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered. Agricultural topsoil lay directly above undisturbed subsoil throughout most of the site.
