This phase of work concluded the monitoring. The site works lie within the zone of archaeological potential of Gorey (SMR 7:33). Previous work by Rob Lynch (Excavations 1998, No. 668) and Angela Wallace (Excavations 2000, No. 1059) dealt with the main areas of archaeological potential on and to the south of Main Street. Work in 2001 concerned excavations on the outskirts and to the north of the town carried out from November 2000 to March 2001.

There is little to add to the conclusions reached in previous bulletins. The monitoring in the western and northern parts of the town did not yield any evidence of the survival of archaeological remains.

The hope of finding evidence of the location of the historical Anglo-Norman settlement was not realised during the whole project.
