Testing was carried out before construction of the proposed M4 Kinnegad–Enfield–Kilcock Motorway Scheme. In February 2002, during centre-line testing of the motorway carried out by Ian Russell (No. 1876, Excavations 2002, 02E0108), a single pit was identified. The site was designated Kinnegad 1 and was excavated in July 2002. A large area around the feature was stripped of topsoil, and the sod and topsoil combined were 0.4m deep. The feature was scarcely visible, as most of it had been removed by the previous phase of testing. It was roughly circular, with a maximum diameter of 0.24m, and survived to a maximum depth of 0.02m. There was no evidence of associated archaeological features, and no finds were recovered. It appears that this pit was an isolated feature and had very little archaeological significance.
