Monitoring took place of the groundworks necessary for the renovation and restoration of Killua Castle. A house was built on the site in the 1760s by the Chapman family, who acquired the land in the 1660s. Their original house does not survive. The 1760s house was added to a number of times during the 19th century, and it was set in a large Romantic-style demesne.
A small amount of monitoring of preliminary groundworks associated with stabilising the building took place. Nothing of archaeological significance came to light. Fragments from the building were recovered and recorded. The project will continue for several years.
