Testing took place of a proposed new road by Iarnród Éireann to allow the closure of an unstaffed level crossing (XA102) at Castletown, Co. Westmeath. The new road is near an enclosure site just south of the Portarlington–Athlone railway line, halfway between Moate and Athlone.
Testing consisted of the manual excavation of three trenches within the confines of the proposed road-take. The trenches did not produce any finds or features of archaeological significance.
