The proposed development, a small extension to a house at Ballyglass, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, lies within the remains of a ringfort. The extension will be on the western and southern sides of the house and will extend no more than 5m from walls of the house. Testing revealed that the interior of the ringfort had been heavily disturbed in the past, probably during the construction of the house in the 1950s. Hardcore and gravel were revealed to rest directly on top of the natural subsoil. There was no evidence of archaeological features, finds or remains in the areas to be affected by the proposed development.
