A grant of planning was issued to Shaw & Sons, Great George’s Street, Waterford, to construct a third floor with escape stairs, a passenger lift and a new entrance lobby at the Great George’s Street entrance to the building. The existing retail outlet may be entered from Meagher’s Quay and from Great George’s Street and is just outside the medieval city of Waterford, within the zone of archaeological potential of the city. Testing was required in the area of the proposed lift shaft. One trench was opened by mechanical digger. No archaeological content was noted in the trench. No finds of archaeological significance were recovered.
