Monitoring was carried out during refurbishment works at 15 Bailey’s New Street, Waterford, in October 2002. A single service trench was excavated through the floor of the building to 0.3m below the existing floor level. Toward the front of the building a cobbled surface was noted. Farther to the rear the remains of two walls were revealed. It is possible that the cobbled surface is the original floor of the building and that the two walls pre-date the building. As the features were uncovered at the base of the excavated service trench, it was not necessary to disturb them, and they were preserved in situ beneath 0.1m of sand.
