Monitoring of topsoil-stripping was carried out before the construction of fourteen houses on a greenfield site at Stradballymore. Monitoring also took place at a single-house site fronting the road to the east of the entrance to the main scheme. The development site is within the zone of archaeological potential of Stradbally as identified in the Record of Monuments and Places. The site is west of the village and immediately north of the Church of Ireland parish church. It is known as the Rectory Field, as it once belonged to the rectory immediately east of the site.
A small feature (2.1m long and 0.9m wide) was uncovered toward the centre of the eastern half of the field. Charcoal and burnt clay were present in the fill. No other features were discovered. Two small pieces of light brown/orange undecorated ceramic were recovered from the topsoil south of the feature. Both are unglazed, and the fabric has mica inclusions. The feature was excavated by Daniel Noonan (No. 1807, Excavations 2002, 02E1240) before construction works began.
