Site 3 was identified following the environmental impact statement as an area of high archaeological potential after an examination of the topographical nature of the scheme. The area was in the townland of Knockanagh, on a prominent ridge of high ground, and extended from Chainage 2400 to 3500 along the proposed road corridor. A licence was issued to carry out an assessment of the site. However, access was denied, and the site remains unassessed. A geophysical survey was permitted, and this was conducted over the entire site. It identified a potential circular enclosure/barrow, a rectangular enclosure and evidence of former field boundaries. These features should be assessed by excavation to define their full extents and to establish their function, date and significance.
