The site of the proposed development is between Markievicz Road and Holborn Street, adjacent to the river in Sligo town. The development involved the removal of existing buildings on the site and the construction of a new building to include a restaurant and apartments. Testing was required as a condition of planning permission. However, owing to miscommunication, the testing was not carried out before the start of construction. After negotiations with the planning and licensing sections of Dúchas, the testing condition was reduced to monitoring. All aspects of the proposed development were monitored, with no evidence of archaeological activity revealed.
